Mind & Body
I have been practicing Yoga for the past Eight years and teaching Hatha
Yoga for the past three. I enjoy this element of fitness and often find that I see the most results with these classes.
Participants use their weekly Yoga classes as their own time for relaxation and enjoy the easy going but hard working ethic
within my classes.
I am a registered Hatha Yoga Teacher with The Yoga Register and the Independent
Yoga Network.
HATHA YOGA
'A Thousand Candles - A Single Light'.
Yoga means unity. It is derived from the Sanskrit work 'Yuj' which means 'joining'. Yoga is practised
to join the body, mind and soul together, therefore forming a unified spiritual whole. Yoga is a natural development for the
body, the mind and the soul. All the movements are natural and come from inside the body, and, as such, one should really
feel and enjoy its effect naturally. The practice of Yoga maintains a youthful and healthy body thereby improving everything
one does physically and mentally, thus bringing an overall gain in self-esteem.
Throughout this century yoga has grown, and continues to grow, rapidly in popularity. Its valuable
use as a therapy for stress-related ailments has been added to its more traditional role of promoting inner peace and harmony
in body and mind. The more you embrace yoga, the more you will feel its benefits in your daily life. I can guide you progressively
through the movements and postures to energise the body and rejuvenate the spirit.
The ancient teachers of Yoga devised
postures by observing the movements of certain animals who seemed to move more gracefully, and to relax more easily, than
humans. The postures are designed to develop flexibility, suppleness, inner awareness and controlled relaxation of the mind
and body. Yoga has long been used to promote fitness of body and mind, and many people have benefited from its practice. Yoga
heightens our awareness and enjoyment of the present moment. It teaches us to transcend the tensions and anxieties of life,
so that we may become completely alive in the present.
YOGA Pre & Post Natal Teacher Without
a doubt being pregnant is one of the most challenging and life-changing times in a woman’s life. Attending Yoga during
this time you will need support and guidance in order to achieve a safe and effective yoga practice during these important
months.
Yoga varies greatly from teacher to teacher, but there are certain elements that you can expect to find
within most yoga classes and these are, of course, pranayama (breathing exercises), asanas (physical postures), relaxation
and meditation. Yoga during pregnancy will contain the same elements, although these may vary slightly as your objectives
for attending class will have changed and my focus now is to enhance the well-being of yourself during pregnancy and
immediately after birth.

FREESTYLE FITNESS YOGA
Fitness Yoga is a freestyle class that
targets flexibility, core stability and strength. It is a fitness programme that incorporates deep stretch, Yoga postures
and Pilates exercises combined with the fluidity and aesthetic qualities of contemporary dance.
Every element of Fitness Yoga is validated from a fitness perspective.
Any one taking part in a Fitness Yoga class can expect to improve their flexibility greatly in 8 weeks. You will learn
how to identify the bodies stabilising muscles (the core) and use them effectively and efficiently to improve your posture
and move with more confidence.
Fitness Yoga is not a spiritual experience it
mimics Yoga in its breathing and style offering postures that endorse strength and stability. These may prove addictive but
there is no dogma, chanting or philosophy attached to this workout. There are no Sanskrit terms as postures are prescribed
from the bodies natural anatomical perspective.
Pilates exercises that target and positively enhance the bodies
postural muscles are included in this workout. During Fitness Yoga moves and postures are sequenced together to the beat of
the music making transitions seamless and graceful.
Fitness Yoga is appropriate for many different target groups.
The none exerciser can use Fitness Yoga as a gateway into a more rounded exercise regime.

FITNESS PILATES
Fitness Pilates is a training option that focuses on the body as a human kinetic chain.
By applying the fundamental Pilates technique and exercises Fitness Pilates aims to offset musculoskeletal imbalances. The Pilates technique focuses on
strengthening the centre by relearning the mind and body to recruit core muscles. Fitness Pilates involves finding and maintaining the neutral position during standing, prone and supine
positions.
Fitness Pilates integrates a mix of the original exercises and ideas with modern research and updated
techniques that are suitable for a group exercise class. It is a group exercise programme designed to enhance the posture,
strength, balance and stability of a healthy adult.
Fitness Pilates classes are influenced by the original teachings of Joseph Pilates and benefit from these original
teachings but they will always be Fitness.
Core Stability
Core Stability is a running theme through Pilates
and Yoga to develop core strength I work a lot with Swiss or Exercise Balls. Classes are designed at developing
the stomach muscles in addition to making the participant work on their postural awareness. Exercises using Balls can
be carried out within the home to great effect. For more information on this please contact me.
